You might want to consider ONE PASSircuit boards.
They arnt dead-cheap, but the layout for some circuits ( and people more
used to the boards ) is fairly intuitive.

I get mine from http://www.hobbyengineering.com/onepas.html cause he's right
down the street and a cool guy to hang out and talk to.  I particularly like
the 6.9" x 2.6" Snap which is $10 but I usually break it into 4 pieces.
Note that Hobby Engineering is not the cheapest place around.
