Two comments:

1. I think it's humorously ironic that ham radio operators, of all
people, would be complaining about noises that interfere with their
reception. I grew up in a ham radio household, as did many of my
friends. Our stories are all the same: everyone in our neighborhoods
HATED our parent's transmitters. Nothing within a block or so was
immune to RFI from my dad's 2kW linear amp. Not the radio, the TV,
the telephone, not my Fender Twin, my Leslie 122, or my Minimoog (the
RFI FM'd the VCOs)... I even heard the sound of his transmissions
coming from the heating coils in our TOASTER.

2. Many of those noise recordings you linked to are awesome. I have
already nicked my favorites and will be using them at some time or
another in my music. Thanks!

P.S. -- as an aside, regarding growing up around ham radio: I
never caught the bug myself -- you can only get excited about asking
someone "how's my signal now?" so many times before the novelty wears
off -- but hanging around my dad and his soldering iron definitely
paved the way for my entry into electronics. I certainly had no
interest in learning Morse code, and neither did my friend Chris
Stevens, who has played drums and percussion in several of my bands
through the years. Both of Chris' parents were also ham operators,
and he tells me that they had a infuriating habit of talking to each
other in Morse code, whenever they wanted to discuss something that
they didn't want the kids to hear. Ouch.
