Not silly at all, if you look at it from the right angle that is exactly
what algorithmic ADC/DAC is about. You should stop iterating the
algorithm when the error and the refinement get into the same order of
magnitude, so it's still quantized and it still has limited SNR. One
possible advantage is high dynamic range without much resolution (or
almost constant SNR over a wide range of amplitudes).
