[sdiy] tr 606 outs

Nathan,

On the kit, are there 2 or 3 wires comming from each socket? Are the
sockets all joined together by a length of stiff metal wire, or all
individual units? What im trying to ask is are all three solder tabs on the
socket used, or just two of them?

If only 2 of them, id suggest you actaully do a very slightly more complex
mod, and use the three.

Whats happening?

Basicaly the connection that touches the TIP of the jack, when you insert
it, should carry the signal, but the RING connection should connect to
ground (in this case, hes suggesting, i think, the body of the snare pot,
but there are other ground points close also)

This is the essential part.

However, that socket that you show is more complex, in that one of the
solder tabs connects to the RING and the other two form a simple switch -
when no jack is inserted, they are connected, but when a jack is pushed in,
the contact between those two terminals is broken (and one of them connects
to the TIP).

If you break the signal path from the 606 by cutting one of the legs of the
little volume pots, and then route this through the two switched terminals
of your jack, and then back to the same leg, the other side of the cut, then
what youre achieve is an individual output that is still controlable with
the little volume pot, but, when a jack is inserted, it takes the voice out
of the main OUTPUT. This is way more usefull in practice than leaving it
present at the master OUTPUT also.

The problem - off the top of my head, i cant remember which leg you need to
cut. But i have to do one here over the weekend, so i can tell you later.

Cheers, Julian
