Can you change the windows default sound device in the windows control 
panel?

Do you even need to use the motherboard sound card at all?  Why not 
disable it in the BIOS, then reboot, and start device manager with:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
start devmgmt.msc

Then show hidden devices and remove completely.  Ok so this last step is 
not really needed .. it just keeps the device driver situation tidy...
