the following works fine for me:
- quit eagle
- on the Finder (or whatever it's called on the PC) duplicate all the files
that are associated with this particular project (.brd, .sch, maybe .erc
and more)
- then carefully rename the duplicate files to your new project, keeping the
extensions and double check that all the associated files' names are exactly
identical save the extension.
- restart eagle, you should see the new project. Double-click the new
schematic from within eagle's control panel, then click the "open
associated layout" button (or whatever it's called) near the top left of
the window. the two files should be nicely consistent.
I use this process all the time and it works beatifully (eagle on Mac OS X).

Best,
Dino
