MASOS wasn't "rewritten"  MASOS is the OS version you use when you want to
do sampling vs the regular OS that was just for playback.

There are quite a few Mirage OS hacks and even a few decompiling/documenting
projects around.  Unlike many other devices, the Ensoniq folks were
relatively helpful in these endeavors.
