Try using a

_/\_ to represent a non-inverted path

and a

¯\/¯ to represent an inverted path

to make it more visually descriptive.  If that second one didn't come
out, I was using an "upperscore" character.  Perhaps this will work,
otherwise:
_  _
 \/

It will depend on how you are viewing the message and what font is being used.

Anyway, forget arrows, use something that looks like positive-going
and negative-going pulses.
