I found the Datak catalog. They have three different transfers called
"Switch Panel Markings"
Type 1 part numbers are:
K19/2 black
K19/6 red
K19/9 white
Type 2
K19/3 black
K19/7 white
K19/12 red
Type 3
K19/4 black
K19/8 & 10 white
K19/11 red
The style of the markings differs between them, and also how many there are.
For instance the first one listed above has more alpha-numerics than knob
markings. The last one has some straight lines and curved arrowed lines in
there. There are also other transfers with labels geared for different
things like amateur radio, audio-tv-hi-fi, etc. Those just make it easier
than having to apply one letter at a time. This stuff is on pages 6 and 7
of a catalog that has no date on it. Images are too small to scan for
actual use. It would be easier just to draw them in a drawing program
anyway.
As far as dry transfers aging. That's right, I have some that have become
useless over time. Other better quality ones still work as good now as they
did 25 years ago. Depends on the company who made them.
Somebody also mentioned "transfer paper". I'm curious what exactly that is.
Does that act like a dry transfer? I think I've heard it is posible to make
dry transfers using some photographic dark room method.
