[sdiy] Microchip MCP4822 (12bit DAC)

I'm curious about the Microchip DACs.  Esp the MCP4822.  The accuracy looks
tolerable and the price looks really good ( $4.55 Q1 ) yet I havent seen the
parts used much for synth work.

Is there something I'm missing that makes these parts less then tolerable?
I *was* looking at the MAX525, which seems to have about the same specs
except of course being quad.  The major difference being that the MAX525 is
$30 Q1 and doesnt seem to get reasonable until you are in the Q500 range and
by that quantity the MCP4822 is approaching the price of sand.
