[sdiy] Fudging Tempco values

Okay, here's something I'm really not sure of...

Let's say I've got a VCO that calls for a 1.87K tempco, but all I've
got is a 1K. How much is it going to bugger things up if I put a
standard metal film resistor (866 Ohm is a standard 1% value) in
series with the 1K tempco to get as close as possible to 1.87K? I'm
thinking that the overall resistance value is perfect, and partial
compensation is better than none at all, but how close will it get me
to the "ideal?" FWIW, 1% metal films are available in 50ppm and 100ppm
temp coefficients, with 100ppm being more easily available.
