I don't personally think it matters where the
+5 is regulated, if it is only used for digital.
The only (slight) advantage to having local
regulation, is that (provided you have suitable
caps close to the input pins of each regulator)
there might be less noise radiated from the wiring
going to the rectifier.
Anothre advantage with local regulators, is that a
local problem doesn't affect the whole modular.
Certainly, +5 regs are very cheap.......
