[sdiy] Modular synth input/output protection.

This thread has given me an idea - that I'd like to know if anyone
else has already taken care of? (I'm having a hard time, trying to
come up with a title for it.)

My thought is - to collect the guidelines / parameters / cautions /
etc., for safety in designing and building a module. As Dave had
asked - is there a way to protect a system's outputs from being hooked
up to other outputs? Is this something that we still have to worry
about, these days, or are precautions built into the chips that we're
building things around? (Or, transistors for that matter - as they're
quite often used for output buffers.)

I'd like to collect all of this data (as I'd said above - if this
hasn't been done already) and post it to a relevant section on my
webpage, for others.

Another small thing that I thought of that would fit into this - I've
found with ALL of the LEDs that I'm building into my system, I have a
_HUGE_ variance in the amount of current that they need to come to a
usable brightness level. :O Most of my Yellow and Green transistors
which can be up to 20 years old - require about 20mA of current to
come up to an acceptable brightness.
But the Purple and Soft Blue LEDs that I've just bought require the
BAREST amount of current to be normal brightness. When they're given
a resistor that will give them about 20mA of current, they're bright
enough to cause a headache. :O (2000 millicandellas?)
I'm going to have to do a fair bit of adjusting to come up with the
proper resistor values for all of my LEDs. (I don't have data, on any
of them - to know there proper current supplies.)

Tips as to proper resistor values / current amounts for transistors
would be another bit of useful info. (I thought of cross-references
between trannies and opamps, but I do believe there's at least one
collection of references to this, available.)

Anyhoo ...... I just had the further thought now - I'm going to do
this ANYways, if only for my own reference. :) There may be
duplication in data, as to other sources, but ..... never hurts to
have more than one source. :D
I'll open a new webpage section for it. :) It'll grow over time, as I
collect data for it. :)
