There was an R.A.Penfold(?) article that showed how to build a cymbal synth based on a cascade of XOR gates (instead of four quadrant multipliers)- each with associated square wave oscillator. The premise was that the resulting spectrum would approximate white noise, but with a hint of "metallic" content. Mike
