didn't see anything in the archive so i guess i'll outline this crap :)
i've already got a big midi controller for DAW and other work [behringer
bcf], but i've had this Oxygen8 controller for about a year, they don't sell
for enough to make it worth my while, so i decided to have a poke around
inside since i wanted a small controller to take on tour at the end of this
month [www.cacophonophilia.org/tour/ btw!].
nothing very interesting inside - three boards:
- main CPU + output board - 22x6cm
- LCD board + vol/data slider - 8x6.5cm
- pot board + up/down button - 15.5x6.5cm
and then the keyboard, the mod wheel, and pitch wheel. everything has it's
own ribbon cable to connect it to the CPU board. the CPU board also has a
spot where the headers for a second set of keys would be - i wouldn't be
surprised if you added one and then got some keys it would work - this whole
system is plug and play as i show next.
it works completely fine running with just the knobs, or just the lcd + vol
slider, or just the benders etc... i guess it's either smart enough to
ignore problems or dumb enough to not care :)
the only time i noticed anything odd is if the LCD is hooked up and you
unplug the LCD's ribbon cable, the volume slider data will go from it's last
position and over the course of about ten seconds will increase to full CC
volume.
pleasantly surprising: the diode on the 6xAA battery holder
i did forget to check to see if you can reassign knob CCs via external midi,
which i don't think you can, but in any software situation where you can
just assign as you go it itsn't too important.
looks like all i need now is a case that will fit the main board, and pot
board and i'll be set for rocking audiomulch and my micromodular on the road
with a tiny controller :)
