The reason really is that this list is not configured to provide a

Reply-To: synth-diy at dropmix.xs4all.nl

header, so most mail programs won't recognize that this mail has come
from a list. The standard reply is then to the sender only or standard
reply-all to the list and the sender. Several cascades of that later
you have a reply-all to the list and all the senders in that thread.

One solution is to filter all mail from SDIY into its own folder and
tell the mail program that this folder holds a mailing list (that
should also get rid of list crossposts), but a) not all mailers can do
that easily and b) not all users know they should do that. So the
listadmin should better configure the proper headers... There are other
ways to configure different mail programs to recognize "listness", but
this can be a drag if you have to do it for each list.

Meanwhile, since you seem to use KMail: configure a POP filter that
blocks all mails that are sent to both yourself and SDIY from
downloading. When you're convinced that this filter works correctly you
can switch the filter action to "delete on server". I haven't found a
way to block HTML only mails before download. You can also switch
identities in KMail so that for all posts to SDIY you add the Reply-To:
yourself.
