If rasing the loading capacitors doesn't help, a coil in series to 
decreases the frequency also.

Might be a simple job for a 4060, since that already has the oscillator 
circuit built in. The 2^10 output is missing though, so an extra ff is 
required. Then again, the individual outputs would generate A's in 
octaves above and beloy 440Hz. Must try that some time.
