I recommend the cheap stainless steel dental pick set 
that some of the surplus dealers have. In particular, you
can clean out a plated thru hole by just melting the solder
(if necessary ADD a little solder) then push the pick thru &
waggle it while the solder cools. Then pull out the pick..
and there you are!
