We use nickel palladium gold. It works OK.  I'd prefer
HASL anyday.

Those old enough to remember the use of gold finishes from the
well... olden days will er... remember that sometimes solder
would NOT adhere to the gold well. There could be (and often
were) hairline cracks. A good looking solder fillet might
actually be floating in mid air, attached only to the
component lead.
