One thing that I've really liked about doing 'fake surface mount' of all of
my parts / sockets, is the ease there is, in removing a part from the
board.  Apply heat, and pull it off. :)
That's one of my most favourite things, from Bernie Hutchins' building tips.

Plus - no DRILLING!  :D
