Google Marjan and Synthesizer and you'll hit Marjan Urekar's
site, where the d-beam partial schematic is located.

I don't remember any other IRs lately... but there was a discussion of
Q-prox technology (capacitive sensing switches) and someone on the
list did a little playing with them.

There is some ultrasonic modules that can do distance sensing, using the
old technology developed by Polaroid for auto-focus. They would be sweet
to use, but who knows on stage ???
