Have had some stability issues with the MC3403 - it seems more prone to 
HF oscillation than most op amps with minor capacitive loading. Also a 
bit curious that the datasheet says "low crossover distortion" and lists 
the  value as "1 %" under the spec'd conditions. Sure, less than an 
LM324. 

What works very well for LM324 replacement is the Motorola MC34074 (and 
MC34072). Like a supercharged LM324, single supply, very fast, excellent 
output drive capability, low distortion.
