Hunting on eBay I bought up a lifetime's supply (well, 120 anyway :-) of 
Bourns 51-series pots (10k linear cermet, smooth action).  Very nice. 
And a nice price too in bulk (even taking account of the shipping from 
the US, worked out about 30p each!!).
