Gavin,

You have a bad output relay,  It's on the effect board, and it's  
pretty obvious which part it is -- it's the only relay on there.  The  
relay mutes the output until the CPU and everything else are ready at  
startup.  Trust me, this is what's wrong with your MKS-20.  I've seen  
this too many times to tell.  Replace the relay (about $5.00), and  
you're back in business.
