I use the gEDA/PCB software on Linux which is free. The learning curve
is steeper than
Eagle but I have found it more productive. See

PCB layout (for audio frequencies) is not difficult but there are a
number of details
you need to work through. You need to setup design rules, create
schematic symbols
and create PCB symbols (footprints). *ALWAYS* verify that the PCB footprints
match the component and process specifications that you are using.
I would not pay for an autorouter.
