that's pretty much right on the money. 'worse sounding' of course is
up to the user,
but the 'default' shit it is included with (standard components and
especially the graphics)
can be quite crappy.

on a side note, there's a much prettier program that does much the same thing:
www.synthmaker.com

available on that site are some pretty prime VSTs made with SYnthMaker.

As for SynthEdit, poorly made VSTs (like all software) really tank my computer.
There's some ABSOLUTE MAGIC that people have created with it, though,
that doesn't leave my audio arsenal.

I dunno, maybe I'm just a little dork thinking that computer-based
Synthesizer creation
(a la synthedit) is totally in line with "synth-diy". the 2 haven't
ever erally been *separated*,
since the _audio_ concepts are more or less the same in both the
digital & analog world.

not to mention, these programs use the analog functional block
paradigm for sound creation, unlike other shit like PD or Max/MSP.

I will take this opportunity to once more profess my love for VAZ Modular :D

Matt
who hopes he hasn't upset the apple cart too much, and if so, will
probably retreat to Aaron's synth-diy class ;D

What is music?
Music is a rich, hyper-dimensional language allowing for high
bandwidth communication of highly abstract concepts and images. Music
is the name for the interaction of the vibrations in the physical
world with the metaphysical emotional center of the human soul. Music
is an expression of consciousness, a path, a doorway.
