I'd definitely suggest doing the VCF FM mod as it increases the sound range a lot and can give you some really bubbly or razor sharp sounds. I also think the distorion mod is definitely worth your while. I can tell you from experience the case can handle up to 6 or 7 pots and switches down either side of the front panel so go nuts ;) you can make most of them switchable so you don't have to worry about losing 'that' 303 sound either.

I just ordered a x0xb0x-kit too! Great to hear of other synth-DIY'ers who are building it. I might not do any big mods, only those that make it even a bit more like a 303 and maybe a switch for bass boost, and maybe some extra jacks like VCF input etc. Altough some mods like sub-oscillator, filter overdrive etc. might be nice, it might be a bit difficult to implement them so that they don't look like "cheap home-made modifications".
