If it has a H-Bridge output, and the VCO is usable
(or it can accept an external VCO), it's a good idea to
use a PWM chip off the shelf, instead of using a handful
of standard CMOS chips and discrete transistors!

Well, let me clarify a bit more!

I cant remember exactlly wich IC i used to drive the SAD1022,
it was to many years ago. Anyhow there is a whole group of
switching regulators but it might have been the SG3525,
since it has adjustable deadband, but there is SG2525,2425
2524,1524 U2352 and some others newer variants with
mosfet output drivers wich i asume has higher oscillator
speeds aswell that might do.
