If Qintron ever tours through your area, GO SEE HIM!  One of the best,
most booty-shakin live shows I've ever been to.  So much fun.  The
Drum Buddy solos are great, too.

His style of playing the drum buddy (which is, I think, a little more
interesting than what little I watched of those Golden Greats videos)
is to have a coffee can with holes punched in it that rotates on the
turntable plate.  When the holes line up with the optical sensors, the
light from the bulb shines through.  All of the oscillators are
adjustable.  Some voices have filters, and there's even an organ voice
which probably has some overtones to make the organ sound.  Cool
device.
