One of my students successfully hacked his flanger pedal to take an 
external voltage to control the clock rate, so you can run his flanger 
from an envelope follower, random wiggle source, envelope generator, 
whatever...

I was amazed how packed the components in the pedal were; all the 
resistors were stood up on end.
