I would rate the LM13700 control pin as the most fragile thing ever,
the FIRST thing I do when breadboarding with it, is to hang 10K resistors
off them
so that there is no temptation to connect them anywhere naughty for an
instant.
A momentary short of the current input pin to + is sudden death, explains a
lot of failures
in stompboxes as well (the old EH stuff was full of them).
