At low frequencies a camcorder will at least give you a watchable picture.
Take a look at this:

If nothing else the design of the circuit should intrigue you. If you
already have two balanced modulators it would be relatively easy to patch
this up.

Temporal aliasing is always a snag. Then there's the variable slew rate
which changes the brightness...
