Not to say that you should mix on a kitchen radio... :^P

But that is correct, in principle. There should be no stereo tricks that
corrupt the mono image.

One exceptional production job was Wings : Band on the Run

They mixed the whole thing for AM radio... then added sub-synth
parts that made it work on FM as well. There are low bass sounds that
just don't come through on the AM radio, but work on the home stereo.

Now only if Linda would drop out... :^P
