Answering myself the second time - a few critical modifications of my
search terms have yielded more useful results. Specifically searching
for "stiff string" and "filter dispersion" as a phrase rather than as
seperate words have helped things tremendously.

Relating to my original question

http://www-ccrma.stanford.edu/~jos/stiffbowed/Modeling_stiffness_string.html

has the formula of the spectrum of a stiff string I found earlier, only
this time together with the material parameters.

The website of J. O. Smith is quite extensive and a bit hard to navigate
via modem, but there are a good number of papers to read...

And a few more thoughts on DSP, synthesis and importantly physiology and
psychology of human hearing.
