Well ... I've been busy building a _house_ in the last couple of years, and
now we're making the garden. So synths stuff tends to be a little slow these
days. At least I have finished my 4th CD now. But I'm aware that completing
the Matrix FX project will rather take 2 years than half a year, as it was
planned.
Anyway, speaking of analogue: It's still my main focus. They told me
analogue electronics was a dying subject 20 years ago when I was at
university. I still remember my diploma work, which was announced
as a mathematic / computer simulation work about a PLL demodulator,
and I talked the prof into changing it into an analoge hardware topic,
circuit design and soldering. Turned out he himself was as keen on
soldering and trying things out as I was: He worked on the circuit
in the morning, and I (always the night owl), worked on it in the afternoon.
I have learned one thing in this time: If you ever have the chance, stick
with what you're best at, and don't go with every new fad.
I'm still earning my money with analogue electronics today, in the
automation industry. Which is a privilege in these times.
This doesn't mean that I'm not embracing other things as well. I love
the Lounge Lizard physical modelling e-piano, for instance.
Love it as a musician - wouldn't dare to try and make anything
remotely similar myself. That's not where I am, or ever will, be
good at. I just like to play it.
The Moog VCO stuff: I'm no member of the church of Moog.
I think I've found some interesing things about the very first (modular)
Moog filter, some of which I've shared, and some of which (forgive me),
I still keep for myself to possibly make use of it later. Because there
is some subtle stuff going on there which eludes the first glance
on the circuit.
And I can well imagine that there's similar subtle stuff going on in various
Moog (or other manufacturers') VCOs. Is it important? No.
Is it interesting? Sometimes. Is it annoying when someone posts
half-truths about it, pretending he's got it better than anybody else?
Slightly.
The good thing about our mailing list is that we can talk about so many
different synth-diy related topics, I don't have to read everything, just
pick what I find interesting, and I can be sure that a lot of others will
cover
the stuff _they_ find interesting, usually in a very good way.
Ooops, this was long. Got to stop now. The garden is waiting, the
wheather is fine.
