That whole Korg soft synth suite is an awesome value. Putting both
the MS20 and the Wavestation in one package was genius. I still love
my real MS20 and my real WS, but I think Korg is providing a great
product for the modern age. The more I get into using soft synths,
the more I start thinking real synths are just a big pain in the
ass. I'm not quite ready to switch over completely, but I'm getting
there.

PS -- Will Korg ever make a Triton soft synth? Or Yamaha make a soft
Motif? It's certainly technically possible. A few years ago, Akai
announced a very sophisticated VST sampler plug-in, very similar to
the S5000 / S6000, then they very quietly dropped the idea. This is
understandable, since they're still trying to sell hardware. The
fact is, though, that most music professionals are switching over to
almost entirely software-based setups. Within a few years, working
in the studio with hardware-based keyboards and modules is going to
seem kind of quaint and anachronistic. I'm talking about music
professionals, not hobbyists and fetishist collector types, or insane
analog freaks like us. It seems that the major companies (Korg,
Roland, etc.) see this coming, and must be making plans to stay in
the game somehow. They're going to have to!
