Being a guitar player maybe check out some of ken stones pcbs...he has a
cheap and easy PS here http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgs14_psu.html
and a stomp box adapter allowing you to use some of his other pcbs in a
pedal format http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgs46_sba.html

Might be a good start and means you can use your guitar as your source
until you move up to making vcos etc

Subject: [sdiy] Getting on a bit

Hi folks,

this is my first post to this list so just let me introduce myself
briefly.

My name is Hermann, I am in the last year of my computer science
studies in Germany with electrical engineering as a subsidiary subject.

I am just interested in how YOU did start and what pointers you can
give to someone who is just about to dig into the matter. I attended
a couple of lectures about the basics, theory of signals and systems,
semiconductor physics and the like. However, since electrical
engineering is just a subsidiary subject, I did not gain any
practical experience at uni, no lab exercise, nothing. A couple of
years ago I built some small circuits based on PCB layouts of a
magazine, so I have already some experiences with etching and soldering.

My equipment is still limited. I possess a Weller soldering station,
an old Hameg oscilloscope, a Proxxon drill with drill stand,
multimeter, and some tools, but that's about it. No frequency
generator and no laboratoy power supply yet. I had the plan to build
the latter myself, but that's on the todo list. I am still looking
for a good schematic for a power supply.

And, of course, I love music. :-) I play the guitar a bit and used to
play keyboard, but didn't practice the keyboard for a long while....

I am curiuos as to what information and hints you can give to an
ambitious newbie.... What do you reckon would be a good first circuit
for a startup in case there is such? What was your first circuit? I
hope you guys in here are nice to a young starter. :D

Cheers,
Hermann
