No need. I use the basic TL074s and TL072s (which I think are too
expensive, but LM324s just don't work for audio) with no problems
[diagram this sentence kids]. They are fine for my purposes.
I played with our band Saturday.
Guitarist 1: Guitar -> Wah -> Special effect box [built by me - TL074
to 4066 to TL074] -> Tube amp
Guitarist 2: - Guitar -> Commercial Preamp / Effects box (at least
partially digital from the sounds of it front panel claims a tube
also) -> solid state amp
Bass (Me) - Bass -> LNA-101 (NE5534 or TL071) not sure which of the
LNAs I'm using [on the website soon - maybe Fri] -> SWE-181 (4066) [on
the wesite now] -> DRV-121 (Son of Fred - It will be awhile before you
see this - but functionally 1/2 of DRV-141) - [DRV-141 on the website
Friday] -> Crown power amp
Guess who had the most proble with noise? I'll give you a hint - he
has the number 2 in his title. If you have a good clean signal out of
the first active stage you hit, you can pretty much use anything after
that (well almost, unless you want interesting distortion, them LM324
just doesn't work.)
So bottom line, save the money, use it for something more useful like
. . .
?? What is the most reliable stereo (three contact) 1/4 inch connector
you have all seen (availble from Mouser preferabily)? I have to
replace a connector on my pedal board. I need something that will
stand up to the strain of people bumping the connection, stepping on
the cable and pulling the plugout, standing the pedalboard on the 1/4
inch plug so that the connector has side forces placed on it.
I am thinking of switching over to an XLR - but that means I have to
redesign the front panel of the pedal board controller module and
either move the exisiting module to the new front panel or build a new
module.
