[sdiy] Timbre Modulator (EN#72) - who needs SAW VCOs?

I just finished breadboarding the timbre modulator as described in
Electronotes #72 (page 15) and I'm in heaven!
Who needs SAW VCOs? I'm using sine output of the MOTM300 VCO for the timbre
modulator and it generates wonderful tonal variations. It's truly amazing:
when you watch the output waveform as you turn the two "shape" pots, the
waveform transform from sine, partly square-like, to anything in between
with high amounts of harmonic content.
(For those who don't know the original circuit: it's basically a pair of 3V
zeners that center clip the input signal, coupled with a VCA).
There's tons of "color" in the sounds, it's highly variable (driven by the
envelope generator) and alive!
I'm already tempted to modify the circuit to full voltage-control...
Anyway, those of you who have the ENs and haven't built the timbre
modulator: it's time well invested to try it on a breadboard (imho)!
Best Wishes,
Dino
