I have a set of Klipsch Quartets. The first things I noticed with
them were; how bad the amplifier I was using was, how bad FM
broadcasts sound, how good a CD sounds. Later I discovered; never
trust the radio to make a buying decision on a CD (they had
cranked the bass way up to broadcast) and how much is on the
orginal records that is lost in the remixed CDs.

Now to the very on topic question, what is the best near field
speakers for mixing recordings of our DIY-synth sounds?
