For hand-mounting narrow pitch SMD IC's I find solder sucking wick 
indispensable: don't worry about solder bridges, and remove the excess 
solder afterwards.

Also I use lots of flux. I use 2 ml single-use syringes as a dispenser. 
Just be sure to grind down the point of the needle...
