Hello,
I discovered a neat little trick for dealing with solder bridges between
pins on SOIC devices. Sorry if this is 'old hat' but this trick been
invaluable in the last two weeks.
If you get a bridge, let it cool. Don't be tempted to go over the pins again
with a hot iron because the extra heat could damage the chip.
Select a fine tipped, flat-bladed "Jeweller's" screwdriver which will just
fit between the two bridged pins but *without* touching either. Heat the
bridge gently and then slowly push the screwdriver into the molten solder.
Surface tension should then just seperate the bridge into two individual
beads. Leave to cool.
Redo the joints using a minimal amount of solder and, "Bob's your Uncle", no
bridge.
Hope this helps. :)
Cheers
David
