As I mostly do simple, low component count, single sided boards - I
find autorouting extremely helpful ;)
No no - not a single trace in the finalized board is made by the
autorouter, but after manual placement of the components, it helps to
optimize arranging functional blocks of the circuit. I find it much
easier than looking at the ratsnet and highlighting signals.
Only after board starts to look easily routable, I'll start doing the
real layout work.
