i thought that this had something to do with the "Q" of a filter .... i 
think ... that the "Q" of the filter on the 303 is higher than then typical 
moog ladder filter .... John Blacet has a filter called the "filthy filter" 
and it is describes as having a lot of "Q" http://www.blacet.com/

"The filter's Q is a measure of the filter's *sharpness*. As the Q 
increases, so does the sharpness of the filter. Low pass and high pass 
filters exhibit a hump for increasing Q around the cut off frequency for 
increasing Qs. If the Q is even larger, those humps turn into peaks. If the 
Q is too high, it turns the filter into an oscilator."

seems like i recal reading that a filters's "Q" had a width but i am not as 
knowledgeable as others on this list
