Yeah, what harry said.  1N34's are extremely common still ( and verified
still in production! ).  1N270's are fairly close in spec and sometimes
found when 1N34's arnt.  

I built a pair of ring modulators, one using 1n34's and the other using
1n270's.  At least in that application, no real difference sonically.
