I did wonder about it being alkaline. I looked it up back when I
neautralized my problem, with the expected production of hydrogen etc, so I
guess I must have used vinegar. I have used baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
with lead-acid battery corrosion.

Lye? not a chance. We don't want to make the problem worse!
