BTW, I guess what I'd _really_ want is just a user-programmable wavetable
sound card. Something like the AWE32 or GUS but with programmable onboard
effects processors, <6 millisecs minimum attack time and interpolation that
doesn't kill all treble.
I guess any post-AWE wavetable card like the Yamahas or Terratec EWS's would
do if they had only released low-level coding info on them. (lowlevel in
this case means hardware ports and DSP architecture, not SysEx)
Does any such thing exist?
