[sdiy] has anyone ever made their own Nord Modular?

Some comments:

I haven't been able to find out for sure but I think that there are 4 DSPs in a stock G2 and 8 in an expanded one. Several things to keep in mind, with a single processor you're typically running a system that has a lot of overhead and DSPs do audio computation a lot faster than a general purpose. So you can get a lot done with a PC/MAC (pick your OS: Linux, BSD, OSX, Windows) type box still won't have the power of a dedicated system.

Also to get the compute power hardware wise it would probably cost you more than just buying a G2. Buying parts like these in ones and twos gets way expensive. Maybe twice as much as Clavia pays.

At one point CreamWare had an open system where you could get the hooks into the OS to use it. Don't know if that is still true.

Maybe a Korg Oasys would work if you can still get the development kit for it. After they went out of production you could pick one up for $300. Korg also would give you the development software called synthkit if you signed a non-discloser statement. The software runs on an old Mac running OS9.

Yahoo Groups: oasys-pci, synthkit-beta

I do know that: my uModular is a lot of fun and sounds pretty good, Reaktor is OK doesn't sound as good as the uModular and can take a lot more time to program.
