Sometimes from a demolition site, you can get a length of 
50-pair phone cable (about 1.5 cm thick, white jacket).
Inside you have 100 solid wires, with different color
and stripe patterns.
Which is nicer than wiring stuff up all the one color, believe me!

Plus, it's good for sticking in a vase.
And, the right diameter for breadboarding.
