My Digital Keyboards Synergy had horrible scratchy distortion, which I 
fixed by popping out and reseating the sine wave table ROMs on the digital 
oscillator board.

That's always my first advise to anyone trying to fix their synergy - 
disconnect, clean, and reconnect everything that can be. Fixed 90% of 
common Synergy problems, it seems...
